Lawrence commuter report

The following construction projects may affect commuter traffic in the region this week:

Interstate 70, from the East Topeka to Lecompton exits, widening project under way.

The bridge carrying U.S. Highway 40 as it crosses over Kansas Highway 10 is being widened to four lanes.

Kansas Highway 32 at Stranger Creek, bridge reduced to one lane for widening with traffic controlled through signals.

Interstate 635 closed between Kansas Highway 5 to the Missouri state line. Traffic detoured using Sunshine Road and Highway 69.

Lane closures at 78th and 94th streets at Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County while pavement is rebuilt.

Interstate 635 at Parallel Parkway, all ramps closed for construction. Use exits at U.S. Highway 24 or 38th Street.

Southbound Interstate 635 will be reduced to two lanes between Georgia Avenue and 43rd Street.

Interstate 35 at Southwest Boulevard, traffic restricted to two lanes each direction for construction.

Interstate 35 at 87th Street, ramps closed for construction. Use 75th and 95th Streets to Quivira.

Interstates 35 and Highway 69 expect delays for bridge construction around 91st Street.

Interstate 35 between Gardner and 75th Street for night repavement; expect delays.

The following projects may affect city traffic this week:

Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive closed to through traffic from Wakarusa Drive to east of Kansas Highway 10 entrance and exit ramps.

West Sixth Street from Folks Road to Wakarusa Drive, traffic reduced to one lane each direction for road-widening project. Wakarusa Drive, north of Sixth Street, will re-open to traffic sometime this week. Wakarusa Drive south of Sixth Street will be reduced to one lane for a short distance.

600 block of Massachusetts, parking removed on east side for waterline construction. The construction should have little to no impact on traffic.

Seventh Street from Massachusetts to New Hampshire streets will be undergoing waterline repairs. Eastbound lane closed and parking on the north side is removed.

13th and Oregon streets for storm water project.

Fifteenth Street from Haskell Avenue to Connecticut Street, closed to through traffic for storm water project.

19th and Kentucky streets, installing wheelchair ramps, possible lane reductions.

Irving Hill Drive, open to through traffic between Constant Avenue and Engel Road for KDOT bridge repairs.

This week crews will begin repairing the street base at Wakarusa drive and Quailcrest Place.

In addition, the following areas will be undergoing resurfacing or concrete repair this week: 11th from Connecticut to Tennessee streets, Clifton Court from 19th Terrace to 21st Street, Haskell Avenue from 12th to 15th streets, 19th Street from Barker to Haskell avenues, 27th Terrace from Missouri to Louisiana streets, Avalon Road from Ninth Street to Cambridge Road, 18th Street at the intersections of Arkansas and Alabama streets, 26th Street at Allison Drive, Bob Billings Parkway Parking at Wakarusa Drive near Monterey Way, Eldorado, and Inverness drives, Jana Drive from Holiday Drive to Harvard Road, Princeton Boulevard at Arrowhead Drive, 26th Street and Ousdahl Road, and Louisiana Street at Edgehill Road and 17th Street. Parking will be removed for resurfacing and some occasional lane closures will appear.

Also next week, contractors will begin the oil and chip program. Traffic will be limited in the following areas: Westwood Road west of Engel Road, Oregon from 11th to 13th streets, 12th from Oregon to Delaware streets, 14th Street west of Haskell Avenue, Ward from Haskell to Bullene avenues, LaSalle Street from Haskell to Bullene avenues, Homewood Street from Haskell to Bullene avenues, Bullene Avenue, from Ward Avenue to 19th Street, Iowa from 4th to 5th streets, 5th from Iowa to Wisconsin streets, Country Club Terrace south of 4th Street, Country Side Court south of California Street, California from 4th to 5th streets, Wisconsin from 4th to 6th streets, Minnesota from 5th to 6th streets, Florida from 5th to 7th streets, 24th Place west of Kasold Avenue, Liberty Street east of Learnard Avenue, Maple from 7th to 9th streets, Grant from Maple to Lincoln streets, and 35th and Iowa streets until the section line.
