The daughter of a Lawrence Police Department sergeant has been chosen from a statewide pool of applicants to win a $2,100 scholarship earmarked for the child of a law-enforcement officer.
Caitlin Shanks, a recent Law-rence High School graduate, on Thursday became the second recipient of the John Foster Memorial College Scholarship. Foster, who died in 2003 of pancreatic cancer, was a longtime Lenexa police chief and was the Johnson County sheriff at the time of his death.
The award is designated for the child of an active, full-time law-enforcement officer for use at any Kansas college in any field of study.
Shanks is the daughter of Sgt. Craig Shanks and Pam Shanks, of Lawrence.
