A Chihuahua died after being attacked by a neighbor's Jack Russell terrier during the weekend in the 2700 block of Maverick Lane, according to police.
The five-pound Chihuahua, "Koko," was in its front yard about 2:15 p.m. Sunday when the terrier came across the street and attacked it, said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman. When the Chihuahua's 79-year-old owner tried to separate the two, a Pomeranian belonging to the owner of the terrier tried to bite him, Ward said. A family member said the man fell down while trying to separate the dogs.
Officers took both the terrier and the Pomeranian into custody and cited the dogs' owner, Ward said.

And I have a hard time getting the drunks arrested at 10th and Kentucky. Do you suppose the jack terrier was intoxicated? Can we afford to house these animals on tax payers dollars for a simple trespassing and disorderly conduct? They will just be out on the street soon without any rehabilitative efforts.
