Trial postponed in MU banner incident

The trial for a former Kansas University student accused of trespassing at Mizzou Arena has been postponed until Dec. 21.

Andrew Wymore, of Leawood, was to stand trial in Columbia, Mo., Municipal Court on Wednesday. But Judge Robert Aulgur granted a city prosecutor’s request to postpone the trial because her primary witness, a second university police officer, was out of town.

Wymore’s attorney asked the judge to throw out the charges, in part because Wymore is preparing to enter law school at the University of California-Los Angeles, and returning to Missouri would be a hardship. Aulgur denied the request.

Wymore was arrested March 6 before the KU-University of Missouri basketball game in Columbia. He and three friends got in an argument with MU Police Chief Jack Watring about a banner unfurled at the arena.

Wymore was ejected from the arena but re-entered after purchasing another ticket.

Wymore has declined a $50 plea bargain deal. The charge could carry a fine of $115.

An MU investigation cleared Watring of any wrongdoing in the altercation.
