Battery suspect jailed in alleged stabbing

A Lawrence man arrested last month for battering his ex-girlfriend has been arrested again for allegedly trying to kill her by stabbing her Tuesday night at Colony Woods apartments, 1301 W. 24th St.

Rojelio Barron, 36, was booked into the jail late Tuesday on suspicion of attempted murder. Police allege he repeatedly stabbed the 35-year-old woman with a pocket knife shortly before 8:30 p.m. inside her apartment.

A neighbor called police after seeing the woman come out of the apartment with blood coming from her neck. The woman was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, but a condition update wasn’t available Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, no formal charges had been filed, but Barron remained in Douglas County Jail awaiting potential charges. Dist. Atty. Charles Branson said prosecutors were still reviewing the case and had 48 hours to file charges.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Dan Ward said Barron was arrested July 15 at the same apartment on suspicion of choking the woman.
