To the editor:
I read with interest about the Lawrence Police Department pulling people over for making illegal turns. Meanwhile, in another section of the paper, I noticed there were several burglaries at various points of the city. I guess because recovering stolen booty doesn't involve revenue for the city, it doesn't warrant that type of attention.
I would sincerely request that our city police get off the traffic detail and get on the trail of keeping our city safe. After all, I do believe that is what we pay them for. Don't get me wrong, some people will make the city unsafe by their careless and reckless driving, but pulling people over for making illegal turns when the signs can't even be seen does not qualify as "earning an honest day's wage."
Get focused, get purpose, and go after those who would really make our city unsafe and not the best we can be.
Gerald Knoll,
Lawrence

News flash they are traffic cops and they are on the street everyday. You can only react to burglaries after the fact and then that is the detectives job, not the street cops which are the ones that give you tickets. Maybe you should understand how the police department works before you criticize. I bet you whine and complain when you get stopped and say that the other guy was going much faster than you.

Funny, when my home was broken into I NEVER saw a dectective. A street cop showed up after 30 minutes took a 3 minute report, gave me case # and said call your insurance company. I never heard from LPD again.
