By design?
To the editor:
Hugh Wentz’s letter (Public Forum, April 24) did, indeed, give me a few thoughts to ponder. With such perfect timing, I also had to consider intelligent design.
For what I saw the Friday night before that was the singing group, Octarium — eight immaculate musicians; so immaculate that they could sing a cappella without a director standing in front of them and virtually read each other’s minds, or certainly watch and anticipate each other well.
They did, however, have an artistic director in Krista Blackwood. At the beginning was a grouping of three songs intended to be sung as if they were one piece. In the very first song, one of the singers started having an uncontrollable cough that caused her to have to leave the stage. Krista alertly jumped in at the end of that first song to plug a CD and do some PR for the octet while the singer regained herself — a very ingenious and tactful move. Does she represent mere chance or creation?
Oh, incidentally, I prayed for that singer. She recovered and climaxed splendidly at the end of the concert, singing a high, high G. That was in the encore piece, a vocal rendition of the first movement of the Mozart 40th Symphony!
Did an intelligent designer intend to have fellowship with us and eventually show those of us who accept him how beautiful his audible set of colors is (musical keys)? He has already shown me that they’re just as beautiful as the visible colors (spectrum).
