Law enforcement report

Lawrence Police said Monday that between Friday and Sunday they handled:

  • 938 calls
  • 118 reports
  • five burglaries
  • 15 thefts
  • 22 noninjury accidents
  • one injury accident
  • Lawrence Police arrested a 38-year-old Lawrence man for aggravated battery after he allegedly threw a brick at a woman during a dispute at his home in the 600 block of Gateway Court. The incident happened about 6:15 p.m. Friday.
  • A 20-year-old transient spit on two Lawrence Police officers as they tried to arrest him for breaking a window at the Lawrence Antique Mall, 830 Mass., according to a report. The incident happened about 5:55 p.m. Friday.

Injury accidents

  • A 9-year-old girl who was driving a Yamaha “Peewee” motorcycle was injured Thursday when her bike struck a landscape truck at Maple and North Sixth streets. The wreck happened about 5:20 p.m. The girl, identified as Jasmine Miller, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment.
  • A Linwood woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Thursday after a rear-end wreck on East 23rd Street. Nancy M. Hood, 40, was treated at LMH after the Ford Contour she was driving rear-ended a Ford Taurus driven by Christine M. Smith, 23, Lawrence. Police cited Hood for inattentive driving and not having proof of insurance.
  • A Meriden teenager was injured Monday afternoon when two vehicles collided about 3:20 p.m. on Kansas Highway 92 just east of Kansas Highway 4 in Jefferson County, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol report. Brian A. Wells, 16, was taken to Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center, Topeka.

Wells was driving a Toyota that struck a Chevrolet pickup truck, lost control, traveled into a ditch and struck a tree. The driver of the truck, Brian D. Payne, 17, Topeka, was not injured. Both vehicles were traveling east on K-92.

Payne was attempting to pass Wells when Wells pulled out to pass another vehicle in front of him, according to the Highway Patrol report. Wells failed to yield to Payne, the report said.

No information was available Monday night about Wells’ condition.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A man reported $1,200 in lawn equipment, including a Craftsman lawn mower and a weed eater, stolen between noon Friday and 6:46 p.m. Saturday from a home in the 700 block of Illinois Street.
