Lawrence Police said Wednesday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 226 calls
  • 32 reports
  • three burglaries
  • three thefts
  • five noninjury accidents
  • one injury accident
  • A 24-year-old Kansas University student was arrested Friday afternoon after a witness reported seeing him masturbating behind the wheel of his sport utility vehicle.

A truck driver told police he pulled up next to the student’s Ford Explorer about 1:36 p.m. at 15th and Iowa streets and saw the student naked and masturbating. The trucker called police on his cell phone, and officers arrested the man at 23rd and Vermont streets.

Burglaries, thefts reported

  • A Lawrence man told police someone stole two sets of golf clubs between 6 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday from his home in the 4400 block of Nicklaus Drive. The clubs were valued at $1,700.
  • A Kansas University student reported a 1988 Isuzu Trooper worth $1,200 stolen between 6 p.m. Sunday and 5:30 p.m. Monday from the 400 block of West 11th Street.
