Firebirds roll, 6-2

? Free State senior Max Ellenbecker had a no-hitter going with one out in the seventh inning Tuesday at Shawnee Mission South when a seeing-eye single jumped between him and history.

But he stopped the bleeding, and the Firebirds (8-2) earned a 6-2 victory over the Raiders.

Ellenbecker, who might play next season at Kansas University, outdueled a possible future teammate in South senior Ryan Anthony, who already has signed with the Jayhawks.

Lorenzo Ricketts broke the game open for Free State in the sixth inning with a two-run triple.

Free State will play Omaha (Neb.) Creighton Prep on Thursday at Hoglund Ballpark in the River City Festival.
