Bag alternative

To the editor:

I was surprised, chagrined and amused at the editorial rant over the new paper yard bag rule. They obviously didn’t go to the Lawrence Home and Garden Show! There I learned to mulch-cut our lawn. I also learned all about composting. When you send all of your yard waste to the dump, your yard becomes sterile and malnourished. I recommend folks call the Douglas County Extension office and learn how to use your yard waste, use your kitchen waste and not waste water. The lovely compost you create will save you money and keep your yard happy and fertile. Even more important, the neighbors will no longer wonder why you are running around with a paper bag on your head!
