Election message

To the editor:

A recent letter by a Kansas native implied that marriage amendment opponents — especially those who moved to Douglas County — were attempting to “change the way Kansans live their lives.”

It is amendment “supporters” who are using the Legislature to force others to change the way they want to live, not the other way around.

The other 104 Kansas counties spoke loud and clear in the last election. Their message: The only individual freedom they are interested in is their own. It is unlikely most Douglas County residents flocked here to impose this sort of view on others. It is more likely they fled those surrounding areas that demonstrated such a selfish, coercive and inherently contradictory view of how civil rights should be enforced.
