For shame

To the editor:

Jonas Houghton from New Hampshire and wife Mary Jane Dunning Houghton, paternal great-grandparents, came to Kansas to make it a free state. Both were active in the Underground Railroad. Kansas is free, but not for all, thus limiting every person’s freedom.

Fred Phelps and his homophobic harpies are smiling today. What’s next? Removal of works of art, music, literature, classics revered for ages but written by so-called gays? Reminds me of the concentration camps for those who differed in living style, disagreed politically and socially, the book burnings, the whole nine yards. If approval of the Kansas Constitution denying rights to a certain group is the consensus of religious persons, then I am not religious at all. For shame.

Sue Hess,
