Cemetery issues

To the editor:

Thank you for the editorial regarding the “settlement” of complaints against the Memorial Park Cemetery owners. You were absolutely correct. The money means very little to most of us. We feel the property should be better maintained, to include: (1) removal of the dozen or so dead trees on the property, (2) repair and repave the cemetery roads, (3) fencing around the entire property (fencing at Topeka Memorial Park is a good example), (4) establish and maintain a regular mowing schedule so the clippings don’t accumulate knee-deep on the markers, (5) repair and paint the “yard art” on the property to make it more visually appealing, (6) build a privacy fence around the “office” and maintenance buildings and equipment so we don’t have to look at a pile of junk when we come in the entrance, (7) repair the system of water hydrants so people can get water for flowers at a convenient location rather than having to drive to the only working hydrant by the entrance to get water, (8) repair the main entrance gateway. There are probably many more items that I haven’t mentioned, but these are the major needs of the cemetery property as I see them. Thank you for your diligence in following this matter.
