Free State blanks SM North, 9-0

? Free State High senior pitcher Max Ellenbecker didn’t need much run support against Shawnee Mission North, but he received plenty in a 9-0 victory

Ellenbecker (1-1) earned the complete-game victory with four strikeouts and no walks while allowing just five hits, only one of which left the infield.

“He is a very good pitcher,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said, “and he showed that today.”

Offensively, Free State (5-2) consistently put up runs all afternoon. Robby Price led off the game with a home run, and Andy Petz added a homer of his own.

“The encouraging thing is there’s a lot of room to grow,” Hill said. “If we can continue to grow we can be good club.”

Free State will play host to Kansas City Washington at 4 p.m. today at FSHS.
