Why stop?
To the editor:
Now that Kansans have banned same-sex marriage through a constitutional amendment, it’s time to take care of some other issues in the same way. For the record, Kansas was only the 18th state to vote on a same-sex marriage ban. Continued inactivity on other issues may jeopardize the hard-fought notoriety Kansas has achieved across the rest of the country.
Therefore, I suggest the Kansas Legislature should immediately submit the following questions to the voters:
1. Should evolution be banned in the state? This would cover not only the teaching of the subject, but the actual process itself, to the extent it exists. All fossil exhibits would be banned, and Sinclair would be required to use something besides a dinosaur for its signs.
2. Should the teachings of Copernicus be referred to only as a theory and not as fact? (He’s the guy who said the Earth goes around the sun.) Since the Bible clearly states that Joshua made the sun stand still, other views should be taught as well.
3. Should all paintings and sculptures actually have to look like something that exists in the real world? This would put a stop to the display of junk masquerading as art.
4. Should the value of pi be rounded to 3? There’s something unnatural about an irrational number. Besides, Kansas school kids have enough to deal with.
These are just a few ideas for starters. After all, now that we’ve started amending the constitution to cover everything that make us uneasy, why stop?
