Morningstar earns KBCA all-state nod

Free State High’s Brady Morningstar has been named to the Class 6A all-state first-team as chosen by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Assn.

Morningstar, a 6-foot-2 senior who earlier was tapped Sunflower League player of the year, was joined on the first team by Wichita East’s Carlin Whitten, Shawnee Mission East’s J.D. Christie, SM South’s Ryan Jehle and Wichita Southeast’s Matt Smith.

David Woods of Mill Valley and Jake Carter of Santa Fe Trail each earned honorable-mention status on the Class 5A and Class 4A teams.

In the girls listings, De Soto’s Amy Petty earned first-team honors and Tonganoxie’s Ali Pistora was a second-teamer, both in Class 4A.

Earning honorable mention were Kelsey Studley of Ottawa in Class 5A, and Lindsay Boss of Santa Fe Trail and Addie Heim of Tonganoxie in Class 4A.

Morningstar and Petty also were selected to play in the KBCA all-star games Aug. 3 at Lee Arena on the Washburn University campus in Topeka.

The KBCA selected Jay Tunnell of Topeka West as Mr. Kansas Basketball and Shalee Lehning of Sublette as Miss Kansas Basketball.
