Manhattan ? Free State High’s golf team placed eighth, and Lawrence High placed 10th of 13 teams at the Manhattan Invitational on Monday at Manhattan Country Club.

The Firebirds totaled 334 strokes and the Lions 349, while first-place Manhattan shot 299.

Nick Burkart and James Fulbright shot 82 to lead Free State. Nat Wells shot 84 to lead LHS.

Free State will travel Thursday to Emporia; LHS is not in action again until the Lions and Firebirds both travel Monday to the Olathe North Invitational.
