Damp and cool start to the day

Lawrence residents were getting a wet and chilly start to their day today. And cool weather will linger throughout the day, according to Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We do have some showers in the morning and clouds persist this afternoon,” Schack said. “You’ll want to take a jacket for the morning hours.”

At 8:40 a.m., a light rain was falling, the temperature was 48 degrees and a 16-mph northwesterly wind was making the wind chill 42 degrees.

“Lawrence is seeing a nice amount of rain,” Schack said. “Grab your umbrella on the way out.”

Cloud cover will stay around the area today. But the thunderstorms are well off to the east, Schack said.

“Our best chance for sun is just a few peeks of sun late in the afternoon,” she said. Today’s high is expected to reach 58, with northwesterly winds 10 to 20 mph.

Tonight’s skies will be cloudy, with the low falling to 44 by early Wednesday morning.

Clouds will start off on Wednesday morning, with skies clearing in the afternoon, helping the temperature rise to a high of 61.

Thursday’s morning low will be 41, with the high reaching 68 under mostly sunny skies, she said.
