The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Lawrence area through 10 p.m.

Counties in the watch area include Douglas, Leavenworth and Wyandotte counties, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Severe thunderstorms bring the possibility of large hail and strong winds,” Schack said.

Areas to the west of Lawrence were put under a tornado watch through 8 p.m., she said.

Schack said the temperature will drop overnight to a low of 46, with cloudy skies and the possibility of showers lingering through to Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s skies will have some breaks in the clouds, with the high temperature reaching 60, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low temperature will drop to 45, she said. Wednesday’s afternoon temperature will climb to a high of 61.
