Sunny skies expected for Lawrence

After being covered by a dense fog this morning, Lawrence is expected to have a bright sunny day.

“I think we should see plenty of sunshine as we go through the day.” said Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist.

The fog, which was at times so thick it was difficult to see traffic lights from across an intersection, lifted by 9:30 a.m. At 10:25 a.m., the temperature was 44, with calm winds and mostly sunny skies.

Today’s temperatures should rise into the 60s by early afternoon and eventually reach a high of 70 by late afternoon, Reith said.

Tonight’s skies will be mostly clear,, with southeast winds 5-10 mph. The temperature will drop to a low of 44 by early Saturday morning.

A storm system will be developing across southwest Kansas Saturday, which will bring in some clouds to the area Saturday afternoon. The high temperature Saturday afternoon will reach 75 degrees, with southeast winds 10-15 mph, Reith said.

Storms are possible in the Lawrence area overnight Saturday, with some chances for rain on Sunday and Monday, Reith said.

Sunday’s morning low will be 49, with the high reaching 73, Reith said
