Amy Cleavinger had no expectations in her run for Baldwin City Council.

Appointed to the council in 2002, she said she just hoped voters thought she had represented them well.

"I hoped I had done a good job," Cleavinger said. "We had some good candidates running and it's hard to find people willing to do this job. I think we were lucky in that area."

Cleavinger was elected to the council with 524 votes, making her the top vote-getter in the race, according to unofficial results. An article in Wednesday's Journal-World incorrectly reported the outcome of the Baldwin council race. Official election results will come Friday after the vote is canvassed.

Doyle Jardon will join Cleavinger on the council. He received 424 votes.

Gary Walbridge won the city's top elected position as mayor, beating out incumbent Ken Hayes. Walbridge received 533 votes; Hayes got 328 votes. Councilman Tony Brown ran unopposed for the City Council's unexpired seat and received 728 votes.

The new council will be dealing with ongoing issues. Some of those are revitalizing downtown Baldwin, dealing with growth and improving recreational facilities.

"I hope to work closely with the school district to address the need for new baseball and softball diamonds in Baldwin," Cleavinger said. "I think our recreation sites have been neglected and I want to find some solutions there."

Brown and Jardon agreed the ball diamonds and recreation facilities needed to be improved.

"In many ways, the issues we are dealing with aren't unique to the community," Brown said.
