Bush not pro-life

To the editor:

In regard to Terry Jacobsen’s letter, “Schiavo case” (Public Forum, March 29), I must point out the real facts about President Bush.

Terry Jacobsen claims, “The fact is that the president is pro-life. …” This couldn’t be further from the truth. When President Bush was Governor Bush, the state of Texas executed over 150 death row inmates (1995-2000). It seems as though life is not always sacred in Mr. Bush’s eyes.

President Bush was recently quoted as saying, “When it comes down to life and death, it is better to err on the side of life.” This was regarding one person, Terri Schiavo. Wow! Where would we be if the president lived by these words while contemplating the war with Iraq? Unfortunately, the president chose to err on the side of death. There have been more than 1,500 deaths among our ranks in Iraq and a countless number of Iraqi civilian deaths.

Bush is not pro-life.
