Biblical values

To the editor:

Jean Wright’s letter of March 31 offers several biblical references in support of the Kansas marriage amendment, but the passages she mentions refer to practices that were regarded in biblical antiquity as either abusive, exploitative or related to illicit religions. None of these have to do with the mutual, committed, loving relationships that the marriage amendment seeks to ban.

I hope that the central biblical values of justice and compassion will inspire people of faith in Kansas to oppose the proposed amendment.
