Put away your umbrella and pull out the sunglasses today -- no kidding.

Although it's April Fool's Day, Tim Reith, 6News meteorologist, isn't joking around about his weather forecast: clear skies are headed to Lawrence, with temperatures soaring into the 70s by Sunday.

"No fooling. Those clouds are exiting the region pretty quickly," Reith said this morning. "The sun is shining nice and bright over downtown Lawrence."

At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 45, with a 14-mph northerly wind, making the wind chill 39, but pushing the clouds off into the southeast horizon.

Because of the winds from the north, Lawrence will see a high of only about 57 today, which is below the average for this date of 63, Reith said.

Tonight's clear skies help the temperature to cool off quickly. The overnight low will fall to 29 by early Saturday morning, with northerly winds 3 to 8 mph.

"It is going to be a great weekend, so make sure you get out and take advantage of that," he said.

Saturday's skies will be clear, with the temperature reaching a high of 66, he said. Saturday night will remain mostly clear, with the overnight low dropping to 37 by early Sunday morning.

Sunday's skies will also be mostly clear, with the temperature reaching a high around 72, he said.

Monday's morning low will be 43, with the high climbing to 76 by Monday afternoon.
