Commissioners meet in closed-door session

The Lawrence City Commission met behind closed doors for 30 minutes Tuesday night.

The reason for the executive session was the possible purchase of real estate, officials said. They did not elaborate further.

No action was taken after the session.

There were no items on the commissioners’ regular agenda Tuesday.

Police investigating report of rape

A Kansas University student told police she was raped by an acquaintance last week in a campus residence hall.

The 18-year-old woman told police the rape happened sometime late Thursday or early Friday when she was alone with the suspect in another student’s room at McCollum Hall.

Capt. Schuyler Bailey, a spokesman for the KU Public Safety Office, said there had been a gathering in the room earlier in the night and that it was possible both the victim and suspect had been drinking alcohol.

The woman reported the incident Friday afternoon, Bailey said.

No arrests have been made.
