Cool this morning, but warming up

Lawrence hasn’t seen weather this chilly since May — this morning’s low temperature had dropped to 41 by 8 a.m., according to Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“Grab those long sleeves or a jacket if you’re heading out,” Schack said.

But temperatures are expected to climb through the day, under mostly sunny skies, with a few high thin clouds, Schack said. Thermometer readings will be 68 by noon and will climb to a high of 76 by 4 p.m., she said.

Tonight, skies will be mostly clear skies, with a full moon. The overnight low will drop to 47 by early Thursday morning.

“Tomorrow, there’s a nice warm surge heading up the eastern part of Kansas,” Schack said. Temperatures will climb to 83 by late afternoon Thursday, under partly cloudy skies, she said.

Then a cold front begins to move in, bringing a chance for some rain starting early Friday morning, Schack said. The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorms will be 30 percent early Friday morning, 60 percent Friday during the day and 50 percent Friday night.

Friday’s morning low will be 58, with the high climbing to 71.

“Then we really cool it off for the weekend,” Schack said.

Saturday will be breezy and cool, with the morning low dropping to 41 degrees and the high reaching 65.

A very chilly morning is expected for Sunday, with the low dropping to 38 and the high reaching only 69 by Sunday afternoon, Schack said.
