Man dies of injuries from head-on collision

A Lawrence man died Thursday evening after being seriously injured in a head-on collision on Monday.

Roger A. Thomas Jr., 22, died at 11:02 p.m. at the University of Kansas Hospital, said his wife, Mandy Thomas.

“He fought really hard, but when he went, he went with dignity,” Mandy Thomas said.

On Monday, Roger Thomas had attempted to pass a pickup truck in a no-passing zone as he was driving west on U.S. 40. Thomas tried to stop when he saw a Chevrolet Cavalier heading toward him in the eastbound lane, but the two cars collided head-on, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Roger Thomas was headed to work at the time of the accident. He was working a construction job in Stull.
