Police investigate apartment for child pornography, drugs

Lawrence police were at a south Lawrence apartment this afternoon where they had warrants to search for alleged drugs and child pornography.

The police department received information Wednesday about the possible illegal activity at an apartment at 2560 Redbud Lane.

Lawrence law enforcement personnel load up a car with evidence, including computers, videos and parapheranlia after a two-hour search of an apartment in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane.

Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence police spokesman, said officers have recovered numerous computers, monitors and Web cams and what they suspected was marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Investigators also found a jar of mercury inside the apartment, which they disposed of at the city’s hazardous waste site, officials said.

Officers seized the computers to examine them for evidence of child pornography.

Police are questioning a 31-year-old man who lives in the apartment. But as of Thursday afternoon no arrest had been made.
