Parade politics

To the editor:

While the rain had stopped, there was plenty of political hot air during the sesquicentennial parade on Saturday, as many of the local candidates used it as a ready-made platform to solicit votes. I don’t fault the parade planners for their decision to allow members of the political popularity contest to participate, but they should have required the candidates to march at the tail end of the parade. Following the horse-drawn carriages, they would have discovered an actual use for all their colorful and promise-laden propaganda.
