Windy conditions expected today
Sunny, warm and very windy conditions are expected throughout the Lawrence area today.
“Our winds will be strong today, gusting between 35 and 40 mph,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. “So be careful if you have to be out in elevated areas today.”
Temperatures were starting out in the 60s this morning, with southeasterly winds about 6 mph. The temperature will continue to climb through the morning to reach 85 by noon and a high of 91 by late afternoon, she said. Winds will start out at 10 to 20 mph, increasing to 20 to 25 mph by the afternoon, with gusts as high as 40 mph.
Tuesday’s morning low will be 68, with the high reaching 90 by late Tuesday afternoon. Winds on Tuesday will be out of the south, 15 to 20 mph, gusting to 30 mph.
Wednesday morning’s low will be 67, with the high reaching 85 Wednesday afternoon.
Schack said there’s an isolated chance for showers and thunderstorms late Wednesday afternoon. The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorm is 20 percent on Wednesday and 20 percent Wednesday night.
