Lions 2-1 at quad

? Lawrence High’s volleyball squad began with a bang, going 2-1 on Thursday at its season-opening quad at Olathe North.

The Lions beat Olathe South, 26-24, 27-25, lost to Shawnee Mission Northwest 19-25, 20-25, then rallied to beat Olathe North 25-16, 25-16.

Two wins against Sunflower League schools to open the season — that’s guaranteed to please LHS coach Jo Huntsinger.

“Olathe South is a very good team. That was a big win for us,” Huntsinger said. “It was just time for us to finally stop practicing and start playing. Bonnie Toplikar really could do no wrong. Drew DeBiasse passed incredibly well, and Kayla Nolte was playing in her first varsity match and did incredibly well.”

LHS (2-1) travels Thursday for a quad at Shawnee Mission West.
