Greenhouse effect

To the editor:

I’ve been recently reading about the greenhouse effect and carbon dioxide emissions which are now at an all-time high. During the past 25 years, the rate of temperature increase has been about 3.6 degrees. Glaciers all over the world are disappearing, with an example of 14 glaciers in Spain that have disappeared since 1980.

Despite the scientific evidence, the Bush administration says additional data is needed to warrant mandatory reduction of emission levels.

I can’t understand why the sales of SUVs and four-wheel-drive vehicles continue to thrive despite gas prices approaching $2 a gallon. These same vehicles can be seen at any given time on 23rd Street waiting in line six cars deep at the fast-food restaurants polluting the air and wasting fuel.

Does this make any sense with the fact that fossil fuel oil is running out and what car emissions contribute to the atmosphere?

I hate to say it, but we have become an arrogant, selfish and, not to mention, pathetically lazy people.
