Work to do

To the editor:

I love this city and county, but the ruling fathers have some work to do.

My real estate tax is higher than the value set by Realtors; curbs are being rebuilt all the time, but the same old potholes are still there. Roundabouts and cement barriers are built in narrow streets, creating life-threatening driving situations.

Schools are being closed, with more children in attendance. City streets are used as raceways (23rd and Iowa), but you seldom see a traffic stop by police for violating most traffic laws.

Yes, this is a nice place to live, but I would like to see my tax dollars used to fix and repair, not used for fluff, by someone in office. We should do things to attract newcomers to Lawrence; the public notices potholes, ruts and broken streets, not pretty curbs.

The city and county commissioners pay no attention to arguments by concerned residents at their meetings. They listen, then go ahead with their projects anyway.

This is the time to remove the commissioners with private agendas.

Otto Hercha,
