Slight chance for rain this weekend

Blue skies and warm temperatures — that’s what you can expect if you’re headed outside today. But there’s a slight chance of rain during the long Labor Day weekend, starting Saturday night and lasting through Monday morning.

“We’ll have plenty of sunshine today and just a few high thin clouds,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Temperatures were starting out in the 60s this morning and were expected to reach 81 by noon and 87 by 4 p.m., she said. Today’s high temperature was expected to top out at 88, Shack said. The average high for this date is 84. Winds will be from the southeast, 5 to 10 mph

Overnight, the temperature will drop to 64, under mostly clear skies. The moon will be waning gibbous, with 86 percent illumination.

Friday will be a repeat of today, only a little warmer and windier.

“I think we’ll top out tomorrow around 90 degrees,” Schack said. Winds will be from the south, 10-15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph.

The temperature will drop to 65 by Saturday morning, under partly cloudy skies. Saturday’s high will be 89, with south winds 10-15 mph.

A cold front will begin moving in Saturday, bringing the chance for showers and isolated thunderstorms Saturday night, Schack said. The National Weather Service says the chance for showers and thunderstorms is 20 percent Saturday night.

Sunday’s morning low will be 66, with Sunday’s high reaching 84. The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday and a 30 percent chance Sunday night.

Monday’s morning low will drop to 61, with an early morning shower possible, Schack said. The high will reach 80 under partly cloudy skies.
