Checking facts

To the editor:

In response to Sue Hess and her misstatement of the facts, please let me clarify some points she made in her letter to the editor Tuesday.

First, she states that two former presidents’ sons have “withdrawn” their support for President Bush. These sons of presidents never supported this president in the first place. John Eisenhower recently wrote in the Manchester Union Leader that, “With the current administration’s decision to invade Iraq unilaterally, however, I changed my voter registration to independent, and barring some utterly unforeseen development, I intend to vote for the Democratic presidential candidate, Sen. John Kerry.” He never stated that he actually voted for the current president.

As for Ron Reagan, we all know he was NEVER a Republican in the first place. We know he was always against his father’s policies and political beliefs, while adopted son Michael has always been his father’s true heir.

Sue must also look at the facts of job growth along with job losses. The jobless rate is today almost exactly what it was during President Clinton’s re-election bid.

I agree with Sue that voters should choose carefully this election between a man who stands firm on American defense and a man who would sell out that defense to the United Nations.
