Shawnee ? Lawrence High’s Mallory West placed second in the all-around, and Free State’s Sindra Schueler was fourth, leading the city gymnastics squads Thursday at the Sunflower League Meet at Shawnee Mission Northwest.

LHS scored 104.5 team points to place third; FSHS was fourth after scoring 104.025.

West won the beam and floor exercise competitions, and nearly won the all-around after posting a score of 36.9 — just behind the first-place mark of 37.125.

“Her goal all season has been 37, so she almost did it tonight,” city coach Kathy Johnson said.

Schueler placed third in both the vault and uneven bars to lead Free State.

The city squads travel Oct. 30 to Hutchinson for regionals. The top three teams at that regional will advance to the state tournament.
