Cool weather sticking around
Grab a jacket on your way out the door — the temperature won’t get out of the 50s today.
“Today it’s going to be a tricky forecast, depending on the cloud cover,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist. If the clouds stick around, the Lawrence area will probably have a high of 58. But in areas that get some sunshine, the temperature will climb into the 60s, Schack said.
“Today is the coolest day in the extended forecast. We do have a warm-up in store,” Schack said.
Wednesday’s early morning temperature will start at 49, but climb to a high of 66 as some of the cloud cover moves out and the sun breaks through, Schack said. Fog is expected Wednesday morning.
Then the big warm-up hits the area on Thursday.
Thursday’s morning low will start out at 55, but jump to a high of 81 by Thursday afternoon — which is about 11 degrees above average — under partly cloudy skies, Schack said.
But if you’re making plans for Friday night high school football, prepare to get wet.
The National Weather Service says there’s a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Friday and a 30 percent chance on Friday night. The low temperature will start at 59 and climb to 76.
