Ethical news

To the editor:

I was recently amazed to read of Sinclair Broadcasting’s decision to force their stations to air an anti-Kerry documentary days before the election (that includes Kansas City station KSMO, WB62).

Since Sinclair is using public airwaves for free, they are obligated by law to serve the public. However, the public is not being served when a large company controls what the public sees based on a desire to shut down democracy. Sinclair states that the documentary they will be showing is news that the public needs to know. If so, why are we, the public, not seeing this news now, today? Why is Sinclair ordering the stations it owns to air this documentary a few days before the election? What does Sinclair have to gain by these actions? What would happen if other large media companies ordered their stations to air Michael Moore’s “Fahrenheit 9/11” days before the election?

The answers to these questions are fairly obvious, and in these days where truth is controlled by which corporation can dictate it, there is nothing fair or beneficial to the public about any of this. It is time for members of the public to put on our critical thinking caps and demand more, demand better and demand ethical, responsible and accurate news.
