Coldest weather of season expected overnight

Dress warmly if you’re heading out to a football game tonight. It’s going to get cold overnight — the coldest it’s been so far this fall season, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

The temperature will take a nose dive tonight, hitting a low of 30 by early Saturday morning, Schack said.

“Make sure you take those sweatshirts with you if you go out this evening,” Schack said. “If you’re heading out to Friday football, bundle up.”

It was also fairly cold this morning, with the low dipping to 36.

“Grab that coat and turn on your heater,” Schack said. Temperatures were expected to top out at 63 by 4 p.m., she said.

High thin clouds were in this morning’s skies, but a cold front will be moving in later today, bringing more clouds and a slight chance for rain, she said.

“We might pick up just a very light sprinkle as the cold front moves through,” Schack said. “But it is a very weak cold front, so it’s not a threat.”

As the low is expected to dip to 30 Saturday, there’s a chance for patches of frost throughout the region, according to the National Weather Service. Schack predicts the skies will be sunny Saturday morning, with clouds increasing by the evening. Saturday’s high will be 58.

Sunday will continue to be partly cloudy, with the morning low dropping to 40 and the high reaching 70.
