LHS trips Leavenworth

Something had to give, and luckily for Lawrence High’s boys soccer team, Tuesday night’s game against Leavenworth finished in the Lions’ favor.

“Any time two teams play together that hadn’t had a win for a while,” LHS coach David Platt said, “it’s going to be a great high school soccer game.”

Lawrence High soccer player Adam Renfro celebrates after scoring a goal against Leavenworth. The Lions beat the Pioneers, 3-2 in overtime, Tuesday at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

Daniel Miranda scored twice, including the game-winning goal about six minutes into overtime, as LHS knocked off Leavenworth, 3-2, at the Youth Sports Inc. fields.

“It was a nifty play,” Platt said of the game-winner by Miranda, who also had an assist. “He really faked the defender to outside and cut it inside. It was beautiful.”

After beating the defender across middle, Miranda launched a blast with his left foot from about 10 yards out.

Adam Renfro also scored a goal, and Kyle Craig added an assist for the Lions (2-11).

Midfielder Pharouk Hussein was cited for his outstanding play both ways.

Lawrence will travel Thursday to face Shawnee Mission West.

The Lions junior-varsity team won, 8-0.
