Alcohol misuse

To the editor:

The recently formed “KU Political Activist Club” featured in Tuesday’s Journal-World article “KU student group taps into lower drinking age debate” would be worthy of praise for their work in getting students involved in the community, except for one simple issue. By focusing on lowering the drinking age in Kansas, this group is implicitly supporting the actions of an industry that doesn’t bat an eye in regards to the misuse of its products.

Perhaps KU PAC should consider the fact that alcohol is involved in approximately 75 to 90 percent of all rapes and remains the most dangerous and misused drug in America, leading to broken families and financial ruin. There are a number of other admirable local causes that are worth giving time to, so please leave the promotion of drinking to the various alcohol industry groups and their massive advertising budgets.
