Vietnam question

To the editor:

One question that I and other Vietnam veterans wished Jim Lehrer would have asked the president in the first debate was as follows: You have described the Iraq War as a noble cause worthy of the sacrifice of our soldiers’ lives. Did you also believe that the Vietnam War was a noble cause worth fighting and dying for? If so, then why did you choose to avoid service in your generation’s war, leaving that obligation to men like John Kerry, who chose to carry out his duty?
