Lions, Firebirds land two on All-Sunflower squad

Lawrence High and Free State High each had two players earn first-team honors on the All-Sunflower League football team as chosen by league coaches.

The Lions' selections are offensive lineman Aaron Kie and defensive back Jeff Colter. The Firebirds' first-teamers are defensive lineman Philip Weinmaster and defensive back Brett Lisher.

Kie is a 6-foot-2, 275-pound senior; Colter a 5-9, 165-pound senior; Weinmaster a 6-2, 245-pound senior; and Lisher a 6-1, 195-pound junior.

Weinmaster also earned a second-team berth on the offensive line, and Colter was a second-team running back. Lawrence High linebackers Scott Penny and Ian Handshy, and LHS wide receiver Brandon Lassiter also were second-teamers.

League champion and Class 5A state runner-up Olathe North led the all-league list with 12 selections.
