Flu vaccinations to be available at KU

At least 1,300 flu vaccines will be available to the public Dec. 12 during a clinic at Allen Fieldhouse, officials at Kansas University and the Douglas County Health Department announced today.

KU’s Watkins Student Health Center secured the vaccines and will sell them to the health department for the clinic, which will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 12. It will be open to people in priority groups designated by the Centers for Disease Control, which include adults over 65 years old, children ages 6 months to 23 months, people with chronic metabolic diseases and health care workers who provide direct, face-to-face patient care.

Cost for the vaccines will be $17 for adults and $12 for children under age 3.

Janelle Martin, spokeswoman for the health department, said the Kansas Department of Health and Environment also has indicated it will distribute more flu shots to Douglas County, though no time frame or number of vaccines has been announced.

The clinic will nearly double the number of flu shots administered by the health department this year. In October, the department held a clinic at Free State High School where 1,432 shots were administered.
