To the editor:
While enjoying a smoke-free lunch in Lawrence with my daughter who was out of school, I felt compelled to write to thank the city for their wisdom in eliminating smoke from public places.
We now dine in Lawrence on most Friday and Saturday nights and do much of our shopping in the city. Virtually all of our family grocery shopping is done here, and I now get my hair cut in downtown Lawrence. Other stores also have received some of our business.
Thank you, Lawrence, for being considerate of customers and employees. Your action will, without doubt, save the lives of some of your young people who work in city restaurants and bars. That's a real economic benefit to the city and prevents much suffering.
