To the editor:
I am 16 years old, I don't smoke, nor do I plan to. But I strongly disagree with the smoking ban. The smoking ban has caused many locally owned businesses' profits to decrease. Yes, smoking is a health hazard, but, with proper ventilation, smokers and nonsmokers can co-exist and eat in the same vicinity.
I regularly go out to eat with my friends, and the smokers never bothered us. We sat in separate sections, so the smell did not affect us. I do understand how other chemicals from cigarettes that cannot be detected by smell can affect my health. I propose that those who would like to allow smoking in their establishments construct better ventilation and air purification systems. With this smoking establishments can become cost-effective and healthwise while attracting smoking and nonsmoking customers.
