City offices, services closed for holiday

Government offices and other services in Lawrence and surrounding areas will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

All city, county and state offices will be closed Thursday and Friday.

City offices in most surrounding towns will be closed Thursday and Friday as well.

The holiday also will alter trash pickup services in certain areas. Eudora and Lawrence residents who normally have their trash picked up Thursday will have it picked up Friday.

Most banks will be closed Thursday but open Friday.

The Lawrence Transit System and the T Lift will not run on Thanksgiving, but they will return to normal service Friday. Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free on Thanksgiving.

All Kansas University offices will be closed Thursday, but some services will be available Friday. Both Anschutz and Watson libraries will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, and will resume normal hours Saturday and Sunday.

Offices at Haskell Indian Nations University will be closed Thursday as well, but some offices will reopen Saturday.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Thursday but open during regular hours on Friday.

Lawrence Recreation Centers will close at 5 p.m. today and remain closed Thursday. East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 E. 15th St., Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St., and the Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., will reopen from noon to 6 p.m. Friday.

The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be closed Thursday but will operate on limited holiday hours today and Friday. The holiday schedule has the pool open for lap swimming from 5:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., with warm water lap swimming from noon to 1 p.m. The zero depth and children’s area will be open from 1 p.m. to 4:45 p.m., and the water slide and diving area will be open from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Normal pool hours resume Saturday.

There will not be general mail delivery on Thanksgiving, though the post office will deliver Express Mail items. UPS will not make any deliveries on Thanksgiving but will resume its normal services Friday.

Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not be delivering Thursday but will deliver on Friday.

Douglas County Senior Services will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The business office of the Journal-World will be open for phone inquiries and walk-ins from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Thursday and Friday.

There will be no Thanksgiving issue of USA Today, but delivery will resume Friday.
