Lawrence Police said from Friday through Sunday they handled:

  • 855 calls
  • 108 reports
  • 13 burglaries
  • 12 thefts
  • 21 noninjury accidents
  • nine injury accidents
  • 34 noise disturbances/parties
  • Police arrested a 23-year-old Lawrence man Saturday morning on suspicion of threatening his 23-year-old roommate with two kitchen knives during an argument. It happened about 7:30 a.m. at their residence in the 900 block of West 24th Street. Police think the suspect was under the influence of alcohol.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • Someone smashed a window, damaged the dashboard and stole $950 in stereo equipment and speakers from a Kansas University student’s vehicle in the 1500 block of Sigma Nu Place. The theft happened between 2 a.m. and 10:50 a.m. Sunday.
  • A thief stole a Lawrence man’s $1,500 Subaru Justy between 11 p.m. and 11:45 p.m. Friday from the 1100 block of New Jersey Street.
  • A 2000 Ford Taurus valued at $6,000 was stolen between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. from the 2300 block of Packer Road. It belonged to a 29-year-old Lawrence woman.
  • A 22-year-old Kansas University student’s 1989 Pontiac Grand Am valued at $3,000 was stolen between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8:05 a.m. Sunday from the 2000 block of University Drive.

Injury accidents

  • A 31-year-old woman was injured Monday night when her car overturned on U.S. Highway 56 just east of the Osage County line, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol. Patrol troopers and Douglas County Sheriff’s officers responded to the accident about 6:30 p.m. and blocked off a section of the highway. Traffic was rerouted onto rural side roads for about an hour.

The woman’s name wasn’t released, and the Highway Patrol was still investigating the accident. The woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by ambulance, but her condition was unavailable.

  • An 8-year-old Lawrence boy was injured Saturday in a two-car wreck near 23rd and Iowa streets. Isaiah Boldridge was injured when the Ford Taurus in which he was riding, driven by Kalila M. Thomas, 25, Lawrence, turned left in front of a northbound Toyota Corolla driven by Donald E. Shafer, 59, Lawrence. Police cited Thomas for failure to yield. Boldridge was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and released.
  • A two-car wreck early Sunday at Sixth and Massachusetts streets sent one woman to the hospital. Christopher T. White, 20, Lawrence, was driving west on Sixth Street about 2:20 a.m. when his Volkswagen Jetta collided with a northbound Chrysler New Yorker driven by Lawrence L. Jones, 33, Topeka. A passenger in Jones’ car, 41-year-old Leslie G. Webb, Topeka, was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where she was treated and released. Police cited White for driving on a suspended license.
  • A 40-year-old Lawrence man was injured Friday in a rear-end wreck on Iowa Street near Harvard Road. Edubigis McAdams, 40, was driving north in a Geo about 5:10 p.m. when a Ford Escort driven by Luis R. Ortega, 26, Kansas City, Kan., struck him from behind. McAdams was taken by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released. Police cited Ortega for having defective brakes.
