To the editor:
There was an article in the paper the other day about the possible closing of the Hereford House. This article pointed to the smoking ban as the reason for lost business. Three thoughts:
1. I have only been to the Hereford House twice. On the first occasion, the meal was less than average. The second time, we were very disappointed. Maybe, just maybe, menu selection and taste are part of the problem.
2. The article did not mention competition. It looks like the restaurants at 31st and Iowa are doing well. Maybe the problem is location and competition.
3. My mother worked most of her adult life as a waitress in a smoking environment. She died in 1986 of emphysema. She never smoked a day in her life! Let's keep the smoking ban.
